Group Training Classes

Payment is required in full before attendance to a class. To ensure you are guaranteed a place in a course, it is highly recommended to pay & book online. By completing a booking form you have acknowledged that you are aware of our terms and conditions. Confirmation of your booking will be forwarded by email. It is the client’s responsibility to ensure they arrive at the right venue and at the correct time.

We cannot guarantee a place in a training course unless prior payment has been made via our online booking. We are no longer able to take checks as payment. If you request a place in a course without paying first online thru the booking form, there is no assurance a spot will be available for you and your dog.

Group Classes:

We limit the number of dogs in our classes to provide the appropriate trainer to dog ratio. Booking in advance guarantees a place in our courses.

You must not knowingly book a dog that shows aggression or nervousness into a training course, unless it is specific course that is intended to address these issues. We reserve the right to excuse dogs that are aggressive in class unless we have assessed your dog for a re-socialization class. If you do not advise us of potential problems and your dog shows aggression in class you will not be entitled to a refund. Contact us if you are not sure whether a class is suitable for your dog. If you are unsure about the suitability of your dog in class and have not asked us to assess your dog before your attendance, you will not be refunded if your dog is unsuitable for the class you have booked. If we have agreed to your dog attending but the dog is not suited to the class environment, we will offer you alternative arrangements, such as working with you on a one-to-one basis.

We are unable to refund course fees once the course has started and partial refunds for missed classes are not given. Please notify us beforehand if you will miss a class. Fortunately we are able to provide (1) make up session per course.

Retake a Course:

If for any reason whatsoever you want to retake a full group class course that you have previously paid for, then you may do so as many times as you would like free of charge. The only condition is you must call in advance and be placed on stand bye. If the class fills with the maximum allowable dogs for that class with new paying customers, then you would need to wait until another course starts with openings or attend a different venue that isn’t at max capacity.

Class Arrival:

When arriving at class please avoid meeting the other dogs on leash. Not all dogs like to be near other dogs when restrained on a leash and may react as a consequence. Do not crowd doorways and allow plenty of room for a dog to enter and exit the doorways. On arrival enter the training class area and take a seat. Do not allow dogs to play together outside the venue before a class, as this can cause excitement and a lack of attention during the session.

A bathroom break before each class will ensure your dog is empty and comfortable. Please be a responsible dog owner and always clean up after your dog.

For high energy, excitable dogs, it can be beneficial to exercise your dog before class with a game or a short walk. Do not over-exercise your dog before a class otherwise they may be too tired for class.

Please consider others in class and switch off your mobile phone. We ask that you do not use you phone during a class. If you must use your phone during a class, we ask that you step away from the class and return once finished. Photography or video recording is not permitted in class. We may occasionally record for promotional purposes, however please alert us if you do not wish to appear.

Dress Code:

Our training involves practical handling therefore appropriate shoes and clothing is recommended. Please wear comfortable tennis shoes or flat shoes for safety reasons, as you will be moving around and on your feet. Please avoid wearing clothing with anything dangling that may entice puppies to bite into. Please make sure shoe laces are tied tightly and not dangling. Please don’t wear anything that would cause you to become upset if it was damaged. The fact is, some untrained dogs jump, nip and play bite on clothing, shoes, shoelaces and sometimes even long hair can be an enticing target to nip at. Fun Dog Training is not responsible for any such damages to your clothing, shoes, purses or any other personal belongings brought into class.

All dogs must be kept under the owner’s control and on a leash at all times. You are responsible for the conduct of your dog at all times. Dogs in class must not show any form of aggressive type behavior toward other dogs or humans.

We make effort to provide a safe environment with all our training services. We make every effort to run all classes in a safe and professional manner. Fun Dog Training also takes all reasonable precautions when providing behavioral services to minimize the risk of injury from being bitten.

However remote, dog training is not without risk therefore participation in training and behavior services is at the owner’s risk. Fun Dog Training or any of its individual trainers, or helpers, will not accept responsibility for any loss, injury or damage to any persons, or dogs attending a course, or to their property whatsoever, no matter what caused the incident.

All training will be by instructors who have been trained or tested by Fun Dog Training, and have been approved by Fun Dog Training to have the necessary experience and skills.

Children in class:

Children are welcome and encouraged to participate. Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Children are required to behave appropriately in the presence of unfamiliar dogs and are mandated to not run in class, or distract other dogs from working. For safety reasons it is advisable all children are educated in how to approach an unfamiliar dog. We do provide instruction in how to interact with an unfamiliar dog.

Cancellations for a group class course that has been paid for requires at least 48 hours’ notice. Course fees will not be refunded within 48 hours’ notice of the course starting. We will be unable to refund course fees once the course has begun. Any refund will incur a $20.00 administration fee. No refunds are given for non-attendance to a course.

Requests for refunds that cannot be honored will instead be given a Fun Dog Training credit that can be used on a future group class course, on a private training program or on Fun Dog Sitting pet sitting services.

Start times:

Please arrive on time for each class as being late can be very distracting to the other dogs in class. Dogs arriving late can experience stress if barked at by the other dogs. If you are late and we are directly working with the dogs, for safety reasons, please wait for a convenient moment off to the side and we will invite you to join us at the appropriate time.

Our methods:

Fun Dog Training practices kind, fair and effective techniques avoiding the need to use physical correction or fear of any type. Harsh handling of dogs is wholeheartedly discouraged and the use of choke chains and other harsh equipment or using fear based methods, including lead jerking, shouting or smacking, is not permitted.

You may not use any equipment in class that we consider harsh, such as choke collars, pinch collars or electronic collars that has potential to cause injury, pain or fear. Any owner who continues to use what we view as harsh methods when asked not to, will be asked to leave our classes without a refund and not return.

Safety for the entire class:

The safety of all dogs is very important to us. Dogs not fit to attend group class due to illness, disease or injury cannot be brought to class. Please do not bring your dog to class if they have been in contact with an infectious disease or parasite, such as kennel cough or hook worm. If you unsure as to whether your dog is well enough to attend, please ask your Vet. If your dog is unable to attend, you are still encouraged to attend the class without your dog so you can continue training in your home.

Dogs of all ages should be up to date on vaccination as advised by your vet and verification may be requested. Puppies can attend our classes from one week after their first vaccination has been administered by a Vet.

1 on 1 Private Training sessions:

The training session will take place at your home or at an agreed location away from your home, depending on the nature of the training. A free training evaluation is required before any training advice or training pricing may be given. Behavior evaluations are conducted by the owner Tim Barker. Occasionally he will have another trainer accompany him on the first home visit if he needs another opinion.  A behavioral evaluation helps to identify the underlying motivation for any unwanted behavior. A program will be created for your needs based on our behavioral diagnosis and specific to your needs to help you manage or modify this behavior.

The evaluation will take place at your home and typically takes 30 minutes. If your dog has any aggressive behavior, it is required that your dog be confined in a crate, confined to a closed door room or confined to the back yard during the entire initial evaluation until otherwise instructed.

Please make sure we have the full home address including the street address, apartment or unit numbers when applicable, zip code and a contact number in case we need to reach you with further direction to your home. If you have a guard securing your neighborhood, please be sure to call Tim Barker from Fun Dog Training in to the gate prior to our arrival so we don’t get declined entry or lose time trying to reach you to approve our entry.
